EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, we witness a touching moment between King and country. During his tour of the Duchy of Cornwall estates in Kensington, the King took a special detour to visit the headquarters of the Waifs and Strays Society. As his car came to a halt, he was greeted by a group of waifs and strays - orphaned children who had found solace under the society's care. With genuine compassion in his eyes, the King stepped out of his vehicle and approached these young souls with disabilities. Among them were crippled girls who eagerly awaited their royal encounter. The children were filled with excitement as they engaged in conversation with their beloved monarch. This significant event occurred on March 17th, 1937 - exactly six centuries after Edward III granted the Duchy Cornwall charter to the Black Prince in 1337. It served as a reminder that even amidst regal duties and responsibilities, acts of kindness towards those less fortunate should never be forgotten. The photograph captures this poignant moment perfectly; it shows the King being warmly received upon arrival at Kennington Road's Waifs and Strays Society headquarters. Preserved in black and white monochrome, it stands as an enduring symbol of compassion during turbulent times between two world wars
