Churchill Goes to Chequers, 1953
This afternoon the Prime Minister left his private home at Chartwell, Westerham, Kent, to go to Chequers - the official country residence of the Prime Minister.
Mr Churchill makes this move at the end of the months rest ordered by his doctors. Mr Butler will, however, continue to preside at cabinet meetings and Mr Churchill will not for the present shoulder the full burden of the premiership.
Mr Eden, the Foreign Secretary, is due home from the United States on Sunday. He is expected to see Mr Churchill on Monday.
