The merchant ship Maersk Alabama lifeboat on display in Fort Pierce, Florida
The merchant ship Maersk Alabama lifeboat where four Somali pirates held the ship Captain Richard Philipps hostage for three days until Navy SEAL snipers rescued Captain Philipps. The Maersk Shipping Line donated the lifeboat for display at the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida, the birthplace of the Navy Frogman. Maersk Shipping asked if the Museum wanted them to repair the lifeboat windows where the sniper bullets penetrated and the Museum said not to repair the windows. Look closely and the broken windows can be seen

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the merchant ship Maersk Alabama lifeboat, forever frozen in time at the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce, Florida. It serves as a powerful reminder of the harrowing three-day ordeal endured by Captain Richard Philipps at the hands of four Somali pirates. The courageous rescue mission executed by Navy SEAL snipers ultimately freed Captain Philipps from captivity. Donated by Maersk Shipping Line, this lifeboat stands as a testament to both human resilience and military prowess. Interestingly, when offered to repair the windows that had been pierced by sniper bullets during the rescue operation, the museum declined. As you examine this image closely, you can still see these broken windows - an indelible mark left behind from that fateful day. The vibrant orange color of this watercraft draws your attention immediately while its close-up perspective allows for an intimate inspection of every detail. This photograph captures not only a historical artifact but also represents a symbol of strength and determination. Displayed against a picturesque backdrop under clear skies, this solitary object commands attention within its exhibition space. With no people present in the frame, it invites viewers to reflect on past events and appreciate those who risked their lives for others' safety. Michael Wood's skillful photography brings forth all these elements with precision and clarity – making it impossible to look away from such an impactful scene captured on film.
