1966 World Cup Collection

The 1966 World Cup was held in England and won by the host nation. It was the first time a European team had won the tournament since West Germany in 1954. The final was contested between England and West Germany at Wembley Stadium, with England winning 4-2 after extra time. Geoff Hurst scored a hat-trick for England, including the only hat-trick ever scored in a World Cup Final. The tournament featured 16 teams from five continents, with Brazil being the defending champions but eliminated in the group stage by Portugal. Other notable teams included Soviet Union, Hungary and Italy who all reached at least the quarter finals of this edition of FIFA's flagship event. This tournament is remembered for its thrilling matches and iconic moments such as Bobby Moore lifting up Jules Rimet trophy after winning it for his country and Hurst's historic hat-trick goal to seal victory for England.
