Ulisse Aldrovandi, Italian naturalist

Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522-1605), Italian naturalist and physician. Also referred to as Aldrovandus, Aldrovandi studied humanities, law, and medicine and was also interested in philosophy and logic, botany, zoology, and geology. He taught in Bologna. His work Antidotarii Bononiensis Epitome (1574) described the properties and constituents of drugs. His noble parentage and connections to Pope Gregory XIII helped him avoid trouble and helped fund the publishing of his books.
