St Petersburg-Moscow train, Russia. This is the ER200 electric high-speed train. This Russian design was the first high-speed train service in Russia, operating from 1984 on the 650 kilometre journey between Moscow and St Petersburg. The initial journey time was 4 hours 39 minutes. Improvements to the track and design had cut the journey time to 3 hours 55 minutes by August 2006, with speeds of 200 kilometres an hour. By 2009, the journey time will be cut further by the new Siemens Velaro train (see T650/205). This service is operated by Russian Railways (OAO RZD).
