SpaceX Dragon capsule preparations. Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) Dragon spacecraft, with solar array fairings attached, being prepared at a processing hangar at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, USA. This unmanned spacecraft was launched on 1 March 2013 to the International Space Station (ISS). This mission was the second of 12 SpaceX flights contracted by NASA to resupply the ISS. It originated from NASAs COTS (Commercial Orbital Transportation Services) initiative, set up to encourage private companies to ship cargo to the ISS after the retirement of the shuttle program in 2011.
