Hasselblad camera used in Apollo missions

Hasselblad camera used in Apollo missions. Almost all the photographs taken during the Apollo missions to the Moon in the 1960s and 1970s were taken using cameras like this one, modified for use in spacecraft. This is a modified Hasselblad EL Data Camera (HDC) 500 EL, which was the version used during Apollo 11 and the Moon landing. The film magazine seen on this camera has 200 exposures, and the labels at right refer to the lunar missions. The lens used (left) was from the Zeiss company. Further modifications were made on subsequent missions, such as the addition of a 250 millimetre telescopic lens for Apollo 15

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Hasselblad camera that played an instrumental role in capturing the breathtaking moments of the Apollo missions. Modified specifically for space exploration, this particular model, known as the Hasselblad EL Data Camera (HDC) 500 EL, was utilized during Apollo 11 and the historic Moon landing. With its film magazine boasting an impressive capacity of 200 exposures, this camera became a witness to history as it documented mankind's first steps on another celestial body. The labels adorning its side pay homage to various lunar missions, serving as a reminder of humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and discovery beyond Earth. The lens attached to this remarkable piece of equipment is courtesy of Zeiss, renowned for their optical expertise. However, subsequent missions saw further enhancements like the addition of a powerful 250 millimeter telescopic lens for Apollo 15. Through this image, we are transported back in time to witness not only technological advancements but also our collective ambition to explore uncharted territories. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity and determination during one of the most significant chapters in space exploration history. As we gaze upon this still life composition with awe and admiration, let us appreciate how these cameras immortalized extraordinary moments that forever changed our understanding of our place in the universe.
