EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in the history of space exploration. Taken on February 27,1981, it showcases the Soviet-French space crew during their intense training for a joint mission. In the Soyuz simulator at the renowned Yuri Gagarin Cosmonauts Centre in Star City, near Moscow, we see three remarkable individuals preparing to embark on an extraordinary journey. Clockwise from right, we have French astronaut Patrick Baudry alongside Soviet cosmonauts Leonid Kizim and Vladimir Solovyov. Each of them exudes determination and focus as they familiarize themselves with the intricacies of the Soyuz spacecraft. This collaboration between France and the Soviet Union was part of a larger effort to advance human knowledge and push boundaries beyond Earth's atmosphere. Patrick Baudry served as a member of the backup crew for this particular mission before eventually venturing into space himself on mission STS-51-G in 1985. Leonid Kizim had already experienced multiple trips to outer space by 1981, having embarked on missions in 1980,1984, and later in 1986. Similarly, Vladimir Solovyov had also flown space missions in both 1984 and 1986. This photograph not only represents a pivotal moment in technological advancement but also symbolizes international cooperation amidst political tensions during that era. It serves as a testament to humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and our innate curiosity about what lies beyond our planet's borders.
