Morbid anatomy. A scientist prepares to photograph a transverse section of a human head, using cameras at the top of the picture. This is part of the Visible Human Project to archive both a male and a female body. An average specimen of each will be comprehensively recorded using CT and MRI scanning. The bodies will then be sectioned into about 1000 slices. Each slice will be recorded by photographic and electronic imaging. The whole set of digitised data, filling 70-80 CD-ROM discs, will be used for medical research and education purposes by the US National Library of Medicine.
