Amateur astronomy, Orion and Hyades over trees. The stars of the constellation of Orion form the figure of a swordsman in the night sky. The belt consists of the three stars forming a line at upper left of the tree at lower right. Between the belt and the tree is the sword, which includes the Orion Nebula (M42), around 1500 light years away. The Hyades open star cluster (V-shaped, top centre, V pointing to right) is the nearest open star cluster to Earth. It is around 150 light years distant, and is in the constellation of Taurus. Photographed in the early morning on Ibiza, one of Spains Balearic islands in the Mediterranean

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the enchanting world of amateur astronomy against a backdrop of majestic trees. The stars of the renowned Orion constellation take center stage, forming the captivating figure of a swordsman in the night sky. Look closely, and you'll notice that his belt consists of three stars aligned perfectly with an upper left tree branch and lower right trunk. Adding to this celestial spectacle is the sword hanging from Orion's belt, which includes the mesmerizing Orion Nebula (M42). Located approximately 1500 light years away, this cosmic beauty showcases its ethereal glow amidst the vastness of space. But there's more to behold in this extraordinary image. Positioned at the top center is another celestial gem - the Hyades open star cluster. Its distinct V-shape points towards the right, making it easily recognizable. As Earth's nearest open star cluster, it resides around 150 light years away within Taurus constellation. Taken during early morning on Ibiza, one of Spain's Balearic islands nestled in the Mediterranean Sea, this photograph encapsulates both serenity and wonderment. It invites us to gaze into our universe and appreciate its boundless mysteries while reminding us that even as amateurs, we can explore and admire its grandeur from our own backyards.
