EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork showcases the Pleistocene black vultures, providing a glimpse into their fascinating existence two million years ago in what is now the western United States of America. These majestic birds, closely resembling today's American black vultures, possessed an impressive wingspan of approximately 1.6 meters and were slightly larger than their modern counterparts. As scavengers, these Pleistocene black vultures played a crucial role in maintaining the delicate balance of nature by feeding on carrion. In this mesmerizing illustration, we witness them engrossed in their natural behavior - devouring their meal amidst a rugged landscape. The artist has skillfully captured every intricate detail of these remarkable creatures as they feast upon the remains left behind. In the background, we are treated to another intriguing sight - a pair of Camelops. These true camels bear resemblance to today's Arabian camels but were slightly smaller in size. Their presence adds further depth to this prehistoric scene and reminds us of the diverse range of species that once roamed North America during this era. This stunning piece not only serves as an artistic masterpiece but also provides valuable insights into our planet's rich biological history. It invites us to contemplate the wonders that existed long before our time and encourages us to appreciate and protect our present-day wildlife heritage.
