Nerve cells

Immunofluorescent Light Micrograph of neuron cells and astrocytes in mammalian spinal cord. Here, neuron cells stain red: the cell body appears pink, with nerve fibres faintly seen which are the route of transmission of nerve impulses. In the foreground are astrocyte cells (green): star- shaped connective tissue cells which provide support and nutrients for the neurons. It is thought that astrocytes may take part in infor- mation storage. Blue dots are the nuclei of other support cells. Immunofluorescence is a staining technique which uses antibodies to attach fluores- cent dyes to specific tissues and molecules in the cell. Magnification x400 at 5x7cm, x375 at 6x4.5cm x200 at 35mm

Astrocyte Immunofluores Magnified Image Microscopic Photos Nerve Cell Nervous Neuroglia Neurone Spinal Cord Subjects System Cells Light Micrograph

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the intricate beauty of nerve cells in the mammalian spinal cord. In this immunofluorescent light micrograph, neuron cells are depicted as a mesmerizing shade of red, with their cell bodies appearing pink and faintly visible nerve fibers serving as the pathway for transmitting nerve impulses. The foreground is adorned with vibrant green astrocyte cells, star-shaped connective tissue cells that provide crucial support and nourishment to the neurons. Interestingly, it is believed that these astrocytes may also play a role in information storage within the nervous system. The blue dots scattered throughout represent the nuclei of other support cells present in this microscopic world. This stunning image was captured using immunofluorescence staining technique, which utilizes antibodies to attach fluorescent dyes specifically to tissues and molecules within the cell. With a magnification level ranging from x200 at 35mm up to an impressive x400 at 5x7cm or x375 at 6x4.5cm, this photograph offers viewers an extraordinary glimpse into the complex anatomy of our nervous system on a minuscule scale. Science Photo Library has once again delivered an awe-inspiring portrayal of cellular subjects through their expertise in capturing microscopic photos like this one.
