Coral Reef Indo Pacific Indonesia School Shoal Shoaling Sulawesi

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing beauty of a neon damselfish shoal gracefully swimming over vibrant coral. Found in the tropical Indo-Pacific region, from Sri Lanka to the western Pacific islands, these exquisite fish prefer shallow reefs as their habitat. When threatened, they seek refuge within the intricate structure of corals that serve as their protective shield. Measuring around nine centimeters in length, these neon damselfish primarily feed on zooplankton. Their vivid and striking coloration has made them highly sought after in the aquarium trade, where enthusiasts are captivated by their stunning appearance. Photographed off Bunaken Island in Sulawesi, Indonesia, this image showcases not only the natural wonders of marine life but also highlights the delicate balance of ecosystems found beneath our oceans' surface. The presence of multiple fish forming a cohesive shoal is a testament to their social nature and collective survival strategy. With its rich biological diversity and thriving coral reef ecosystem, Sulawesi serves as an ideal location for underwater exploration and scientific research. This photograph exemplifies how science can beautifully capture moments that showcase both the magnificence and fragility of our planet's wildlife.
