Malaria in the body

Malaria in body. Computer illustration of the passage of malaria through the human body. Malaria is a tropical disease caused by Plasmodium sp. protozoa. They enter the blood after a bite (upper left) from an infected Anopheles sp. mosquito, and travel (red arrows) through the blood to the liver (brown, lower centre). Here they multiply and invade red blood cells, causing the cells to swell and burst. The lack of red blood cells leads to anaemia, and the presence of Plasmodia in the blood causes a fever. Some Plasmodia invade more red blood cells, and others are taken up by other mosquitoes (upper right), continuing the cycle

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Malaria in the Body" offers a vivid computer illustration of the intricate journey of malaria through the human body. Malaria, a tropical disease caused by Plasmodium sp. protozoa, enters our bloodstream after an unfortunate bite from an infected Anopheles sp. mosquito (upper left). From there, it embarks on a perilous expedition through our blood vessels, guided by red arrows, until it reaches its destination: the liver (brown, lower centre). Once inside the liver's sanctuary, these cunning parasites multiply and launch their invasion into red blood cells. This nefarious act causes these cells to swell and ultimately burst under pressure. The consequence? A depletion of red blood cells leading to anaemia while simultaneously triggering fever due to Plasmodia's presence in our bloodstream. The cycle doesn't end there; some Plasmodia continue their relentless assault on more unsuspecting red blood cells while others hitch a ride with other mosquitoes (upper right), perpetuating this vicious cycle. This remarkable artwork not only highlights the complex nature of this disease but also serves as a reminder of how crucial medical advancements are in combating such disorders. By shedding light on this intricate malaria cycle within our bodies, we gain valuable insights that can aid healthcare professionals and researchers in developing effective treatments and preventive measures against this debilitating condition.
