Lemon shark and remoras

Lemon shark and remoras. Lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) can reach a length of over 3 metres and inhabit coral keys, docks, bays and river mouths in coastal regions. They are usually marine, but will occasionally enter freshwater areas, only entering the open sea in order to mate. They are found on continental shelves in the coastal regions of the Atlantic from the USA to Brazil, and in the Pacific from Baja California, Mexico, to Ecuador. Photographed on Little Bahama Bank, Grand Bahama

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the mesmerizing beauty of a Lemon shark and its accompanying remoras. The Lemon shark, scientifically known as Negaprion brevirostris, is an impressive creature that can grow to over 3 meters in length. It prefers to inhabit coral keys, docks, bays, and river mouths in coastal regions but will occasionally venture into freshwater areas. These sharks are commonly found on continental shelves along the Atlantic coast from the USA to Brazil and in the Pacific from Baja California, Mexico to Ecuador. Photographed on Little Bahama Bank in Grand Bahama, this image captures the essence of these magnificent creatures' natural habitat. The crystal-clear blue waters provide a stunning backdrop for this underwater scene. With their sharp teeth and powerful presence, these lemon sharks embody both grace and strength. The remoras swimming alongside them add an interesting dynamic to the composition. Remoras are small fish that attach themselves to larger marine animals using specialized suction discs on their heads. They benefit from this symbiotic relationship by feeding off scraps left behind by their hosts while providing them with cleaning services. This photograph not only highlights the diverse fauna present in our oceans but also serves as a reminder of how interconnected marine ecosystems truly are. It offers viewers a glimpse into the world beneath the surface – one filled with wonder, mystery, and awe-inspiring creatures like these lemon sharks and remoras.
