Gravity map of the whole Earth

Gravity anomalies. Coloured free-air gravity anom- aly map of the Earth, centred on the Atlantic Ocean. These anomalies are the differences between the theoretical value for the gravity at the sur- face & the measured value. The colours range from purple (low gravity), through blue, green (normal), yellow, red to white (high). The anomalies are only a tiny fraction of the gravitational field strength, but they can provide information on the Earths internal structure. The gravity low in Hudson Bay, Canada (upper left), occurs partly because the areas rocks are recovering from being compressed during the last ice age

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a gravity map of the entire Earth, revealing its mesmerizing gravitational anomalies. The image is centered on the vast Atlantic Ocean, allowing us to explore the intricate variations in gravity across our planet's surface. The colors employed in this map represent different levels of gravity anomalies. Starting from purple, which indicates areas with low gravity, we transition through shades of blue and green that signify normal gravitational forces. As we move towards yellow and red hues, these depict regions with higher-than-normal gravity values. Finally, white represents areas with exceptionally high gravitational strength. Although these anomalies only constitute a small fraction of the overall gravitational field, they hold significant insights into Earth's internal structure. By comparing theoretical values for surface gravity with actual measurements taken on-site, scientists can unravel valuable information about our planet's composition and dynamics. One notable feature captured in this image is the Hudson Bay Gravity Low located in Canada's upper left region. This phenomenon arises from geological processes related to the recovery of rocks following compression during the last ice age. As an awe-inspiring representation of Earth science at its finest, this photograph serves as a reminder of humanity's ongoing quest to understand our planet better and unlock its hidden secrets.
