Grauvogel-Gall fossil collection. French palaeontologist Lea Grauvogel-Stamm (born 1940) with plant, fish and scorpion fossils from the collection she maintains. She obtained her doctorate in 1978 from the University of Strasbourg. The fossils are found in clay and sandstone layers in quarries in the Vosges mountain range, France, deposited by ancient rivers. They date from 240 million years ago, during the Triassic. One of the worlds largest private collections of fossils, the Grauvogel-Gall collection is named for the Grauvogels and palaeontologist Jean-Claude Gall. It includes fossils discovered by Grauvogel-Stamms father Louis Grauvogel

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Grauvogel-Gall fossil collection is a remarkable testament to the ancient world, carefully curated and maintained by French palaeontologist Lea Grauvogel-Stamm. In this photo print, we see Lea surrounded by an impressive array of plant, fish, and scorpion fossils from her extensive collection. Born in 1940, Lea obtained her doctorate from the University of Strasbourg in 1978 and has dedicated her life to studying these prehistoric remnants. The fossils showcased here were discovered in clay and sandstone layers within quarries nestled in the picturesque Vosges mountain range of France. These deposits originated from ancient rivers that flowed approximately 240 million years ago during the Triassic period. This private collection stands as one of the largest in the world and bears both Lea's name as well as that of esteemed palaeontologist Jean-Claude Gall. Lea's father Louis Grauvogel also played a significant role in amassing this extraordinary assortment of fossils. The photograph captures not only a woman deeply immersed in scientific research but also pays homage to generations past who contributed to our understanding of Earth's history. As we gaze upon this image, we are reminded of nature's intricate beauty frozen in time - each specimen representing a unique chapter within our planet's story. It serves as a testament to human curiosity and dedication towards unraveling the mysteries held within rocks and stones while preserving our natural heritage for future generations to explore and learn from.
