ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter, artwork C016 / 6389

ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter. Artwork of the TGO (Trace Gas Orbiter) under development by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) as part of the ESAs ExoMars mission. This robotic orbiter-carrier would be launched in January 2016 and reach Mars in October of that year. On board would be the ExoMars EDM stationary lander, which would prepare for the later (2018) ExoMars lander rover. The TGO orbiter would remain in orbit, mapping Mars for sources of methane and other gases

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork showcases the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO), a remarkable collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos). The TGO, depicted against a clean white background, represents cutting-edge technology and futuristic exploration. Scheduled for launch in January 2016, this robotic orbiter-carrier embarked on an ambitious mission to reach Mars by October of that same year. On board was the ExoMars EDM stationary lander, which would pave the way for future endeavors such as the ExoMars lander rover set to arrive in 2018. The TGO remained in orbit around Mars while diligently mapping its surface for traces of methane and other gases. Equipped with advanced sensors and solar panels, this unmanned spacecraft aimed to unravel mysteries about our neighboring planet's atmosphere. The illustration exudes a sense of scientific curiosity and ambition as it symbolizes humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge beyond Earth's boundaries. It serves as a testament to human ingenuity and international collaboration in space exploration. Detlev van Ravenswaay skillfully captures both the technological prowess behind this mission and its potential impact on planetary science. This image is not only visually striking but also evokes excitement about what lies ahead for mankind's understanding of Mars' enigmatic environment.
