Electrolysis of water
Electrolysis of water. Hoffman Voltameter used to decompose molecules of water. A power supply (bottom right) is used to pass an electric current through the water between two electrodes (silver) at the bottom of the outer tubes. This splits the water into its constituent oxygen and hydrogen which bubble off as gases at the anode (left electrode) and cathode (right electrode) respectively. The gases can be collected at the top of the outer tubes
