Earth view of the planet Venus with the Moon

Venus. Venus (at upper right) with the Moon (at lower right) as seen from Earth. The constellation of the Pleiades or Seven Sisters is at top centre. Venus, the second planet from the Sun, is known as the " evening star" or " morning star" because it is never visible more than 3 hours before sunrise or 3 hours after sunset. It appears 15 times brighter than the brightest star & is the third brightest heavenly body, being outshone only by the Sun & Moon. Venus does not produce light but reflects sunlight like the Moon. Photographed in Finland. 22/23 March 1996

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the breathtaking Earth view of the planet Venus with the Moon, as seen from our vantage point. The celestial beauty unfolds before us, showcasing Venus at the upper right corner and the Moon gracefully positioned at the lower right. Atop this mesmerizing scene lies the constellation of Pleiades or Seven Sisters, adding a touch of ethereal wonder to this cosmic spectacle. Venus, known as both the "evening star" and "morning star" holds a unique place in our sky. It never appears more than 3 hours before sunrise or after sunset, making it an elusive sight for stargazers. However, when it does grace us with its presence, Venus shines fifteen times brighter than any other star in our universe and stands as the third brightest heavenly body after only the Sun and Moon. Contrary to popular belief, Venus does not emit light but rather reflects sunlight like its lunar companion. This photograph was taken in Finland on March 22nd-23rd in 1996 by Science Photo Library—an awe-inspiring testament to humanity's fascination with space exploration and celestial wonders. In this image filled with astronomical marvels—Venus shining brightly alongside our faithful Moon—we are reminded of how vast and enchanting our universe truly is. Let this stunning visual transport you into a world beyond ours—a realm where science meets artistry—and ignite your curiosity about what lies beyond Earth's boundaries.
