Earth at time of Pangea

Future Earth. Computer artwork of the position of Earths continents around 250 million years in the future. A new supercontinent, Pangea Ultima, has formed. The landlocked sea at centre used to be the Indian Ocean. Surrounding it are what used to be Asia (upper right and centre right), South America (lower left), and Africa (upper left). Europe is at top centre. North America is at far left. The Atlantic Ocean no longer exists. The southern tip of South America has joined with South-East Asia, above an island continent formed from Australia and Antarctica. The continents are slowly moved over the surface of the Earth by currents in the fluid mantle below the crust. Many continents have formed and broken up during the 4.5-billion-year history of the Earth

EDITORS COMMENTS
This computer artwork showcases a vision of Earth in the far future, approximately 250 million years from now. The image depicts a new supercontinent known as Pangea Ultima, formed through the continuous movement of Earth's continents over millions of years. At its center lies a once vast Indian Ocean, transformed into a landlocked sea. The familiar shapes of Asia, South America, and Africa can still be discerned in their altered positions. Europe occupies the top center while North America stretches towards the left side. Remarkably, the Atlantic Ocean has vanished entirely from this futuristic rendition. A striking transformation is observed at the southern tip of South America which has merged with Southeast Asia above an island continent formed by Australia and Antarctica coming together. This amalgamation highlights both the power and dynamism behind plate tectonics and continental drift throughout our planet's history. As we gaze upon this thought-provoking illustration, it becomes evident that Earth's geography is ever-evolving and subject to constant change. Over its immense 4.5-billion-year existence, countless continents have emerged and fragmented across its spherical surface. This awe-inspiring print serves as a reminder that our world is constantly in motion—a testament to the intricate workings of geological forces shaping our planet since time immemorial.
