Cygnus and Lyra constellations

Cygnus and Lyra constellations. Cygnus, the swan, is at centre left, with Lyra, the lyre, at centre right. The brightest star is Cygnus is Deneb (Alpha Cygni, upper left). This is one of the most powerful stars known, and is one of the brightest stars in the night sky despite its great distance of over 3000 light years. The brightest star in Lyra is Vega (Alpha Lyrae). This is the fifth brightest star in the night sky but is far closer than Deneb, at just 26 light years. Cygnus follows the path of the Milky Way from top left to bottom right. The Milky Way in this region is studded with nebulae (red), star clusters and dark dust clouds

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the mesmerizing beauty of the Cygnus and Lyra constellations against the backdrop of a starry night sky. At the center left, we see Cygnus, also known as the swan, while Lyra, resembling a lyre, graces the center right. The brilliance of this image lies in its portrayal of two remarkable stars within these constellations. Deneb, located in Cygnus (upper left), shines as one of the most powerful stars ever discovered. Despite being over 3000 light years away from us, its radiance makes it one of the brightest stars visible to our eyes at night. On the other hand, Vega (Alpha Lyrae) takes its place as Lyra's brightest star. Although it is only 26 light years away from Earth - relatively close compared to Deneb - Vega still ranks fifth among all celestial bodies illuminating our nocturnal canvas. As we follow Cygnus along its path across this scene from top left to bottom right, we witness an enchanting sight: a Milky Way adorned with nebulae that paint vibrant hues of red amidst clusters of sparkling stars and dark dust clouds. This photograph truly encapsulates both wonder and serenity found within our vast universe. Captured by Science Photo Library without any commercial intent or mention thereof, this extraordinary print invites us to marvel at nature's celestial wonders and contemplate our place in this cosmic tapestry.
