Cosmonaut Gherman Titov

Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov (1935-2000). Major Titov was the second Soviet in space. He completed 17 orbits of the Earth on 6-7th August 1961, just four months after Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space. He ate two meals and slept aboard the Vostok II spacecraft before re-entering the Earths atmosphere after 25 hours in space. He became a test pilot, but never returned to space. In 1995 he was elected to the Duma, the Russian Parliament, as a member of the Communist party
