Concentrating solar power plant
Concentrating solar power plant. Heliostat (mirrors with sun-tracking motion) array and receiver (bright) tower at a concentrating solar power (CSP) plant. CSP plants use heliostats to reflect sunlight and concentrate it on to a small area. The concentrated solar energy is then used to produce electrical power. Here it is directed onto a central receiver mounted at the top of a tower where it boils water to produce steam, which is piped to a steam turbine generator to convert the energy to electricity. The steam from the turbine is then condensed and pressurized back into the receiver. Photographed at the Sierra Sun Tower, Lancaster, California, USA
