Computer artwork of Roton rockets in orbit

Rotary rockets. Computer illustration of two Roton rotary rockets in orbit. One (right) has deployed a satellite (lower right). Roton is a revolution- ary design: far lighter than normal rockets due to its unique engine. Unlike normal rockets, it does not have a single combustion chamber with weighty pumps feeding in fuel. Instead it has a 7 metre wide rotating disc with 96 small combustion cham- bers around it, into which fuel is thrown by the force of the discs rotation. The craft has rotor blades on its nose (not seen here) which are used to stabilise and slow its descent in the manner of a helicopter. Roton has been designed by the Rotary Rocket Company, based in California, USA

EDITORS COMMENTS
This computer artwork showcases the innovative design of Roton rockets in orbit. Two Roton rotary rockets gracefully float against the backdrop of space, mesmerizing viewers with their futuristic appearance. One of the rockets on the right has successfully deployed a satellite into lower right quadrant, further emphasizing its capabilities. What sets Roton apart from traditional rockets is its groundbreaking engineering. Unlike conventional models burdened by heavy pumps and a single combustion chamber, Roton revolutionizes space travel with its unique engine. At its core lies a remarkable 7-meter wide rotating disc adorned with 96 small combustion chambers encircling it like jewels on a crown. Fuel is propelled into these chambers through the sheer force generated by the disc's rotation. To ensure stability during descent, this extraordinary craft boasts rotor blades on its nose that mimic those found on helicopters. These blades not only aid in maintaining balance but also facilitate controlled deceleration upon re-entry to Earth's atmosphere. The visionary minds behind this revolutionary design belong to none other than California-based Rotary Rocket Company. Their ingenuity and dedication have birthed an awe-inspiring creation poised to redefine rocketry as we know it. Through this stunning artwork, Science Photo Library invites us to marvel at humanity's ceaseless pursuit of innovation and exploration in our quest for understanding outer space.
