Bismuth crystals, macrophotograph

Artificial bismuth crystals. Synthetically produced hopper crystals of bismuth. The extravagant colours result from a thin oxidation layer that forms on the surface of these crystals during the formation process. The process involves heating and melting bismuth (chemical symbol: Bi) in a stove and letting the melt cool down under controlled conditions. It is a poor conductor of heat and has the greatest resistance to magnetism of all metals. It has properties similar to lead and it is used extensively in industry, medicine and in chemical catalysts. Objekt size approx. 20mm

Bismuth Chemical Element Colourful Crystal Crystalline Crystals Element Layer Metal Metallurgy Oxidation Sheen Shine Surface Synthetic

EDITORS COMMENTS
This macrophotograph showcases the mesmerizing beauty of artificial bismuth crystals. The extravagant colors that adorn these hopper crystals are a result of a thin oxidation layer that forms on their surface during the formation process. To create these stunning specimens, bismuth (chemical symbol: Bi) is heated and melted in a stove, then allowed to cool under controlled conditions. Bismuth, known for its unique properties, boasts the greatest resistance to magnetism among all metals and exhibits poor heat conductivity. With similarities to lead, this versatile element finds extensive applications in various industries, medicine, and chemical catalysts. The crystal's sheen and vibrant hues make it an industrial marvel as well as a sight to behold. Its crystalline structure reflects light with brilliance while showcasing its synthetic origin. Measuring approximately 20mm in size, this photograph by Alfred Pasieka captures every intricate detail of these remarkable bismuth crystals. Delving into the world of metallurgy and chemistry, this image invites us to appreciate the wonders created through scientific processes. It serves as a testament to mankind's ability to manipulate elements for both practical purposes and aesthetic pleasure.
