EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an extraordinary assortment of fish fossils from the Paleocene period, dating back a staggering 65 million years. These fossilized specimens provide a fascinating glimpse into the ancient world, where various species of fish and reptiles roamed the Earth. At the lower center, we are drawn to a striking black vertebra belonging to the bowfin fish (Amia sp. ), its intricate details preserved over millennia. In the upper right corner, catfish vertebrae add another layer of diversity to this remarkable collection. The pycnodont palates take center stage in this composition, their nobbled appearance capturing our attention with their unique texture and shape. Meanwhile, an intriguing Dipnoan lungfish tooth can be spotted at the upper left corner, hinting at the incredible adaptability of these prehistoric creatures. Not limited to aquatic lifeforms alone, this assemblage also includes remnants from land-dwelling reptiles. A crocodile snout commands attention on the left side while a digit and claw further emphasize their presence. Finally, completing this mesmerizing display is a set of sea snake vertebrae located at bottom center – evidence of yet another enigmatic creature that once inhabited our planet. Discovered in Tamanguillet within Mali's African landscape, these invaluable fossils offer scientists valuable insights into our planet's past biodiversity and serve as reminders of how life has evolved over millions of years.
