Artwork of Tyrannosaurus & Triceratops dinosaurs
Tyrannosaurus & Triceratops. Artwork of a dying Tyrannosaurus rex (lower right) after a fight with a Triceratops (centre). Another T. rex dinosaur is running away. T. rex was a carnivore, being about 14 metres (m) long, 5m high and weighing about 7 tonnes. It attacked its prey with long teeth and sharp claws on its hind legs. Triceratops was a herbivore that grew up to 9m long and weighed up to 6 tonnes; their skulls were up to 2m long. They defended themselves with horns, whilst a bony frill protected their neck. Both T. rex & Tricera- tops evolved only a few million years before dinosaurs became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period (about 65 million years ago)
