Artwork of a Tenontosaurus dinosaur

Tenontosaurus dinosaur. Artwork of a Tenontosaurus (" sinew reptile" ) dinosaur. Tenontosaurus was a medium-sized dinosaur, being up to 6.5 metres in length & weighing up to a tonne. It was one of the largest members of the Hypsilophodontid family. It used its powerful jaw muscles & broad, closely- fitting teeth to chew plants. It could walk on four legs, but ran on its two rear limbs using its heavy tail to counter-balance its forward-leaning body. It used its size to deter small predators and its speed to escape large ones. Tenontosaurus gets its name from the sheath of tendons that sti- ffened its tail. It lived about 110 million years ago during the Cretaceous period in North America

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the incredible artwork of a Tenontosaurus dinosaur, also known as the "sinew reptile". The Tenontosaurus was a medium-sized dinosaur that reached lengths of up to 6.5 meters and weighed an impressive tonne. Belonging to the Hypsilophodontid family, it stood as one of its largest members. With its powerful jaw muscles and broad teeth perfectly adapted for chewing plants, this magnificent creature roamed the Earth during the Cretaceous period approximately 110 million years ago in North America. While it could walk on all fours, it relied on its two rear limbs for swift running, utilizing its heavy tail to maintain balance. The name Tenontosaurus derives from the sheath of tendons that stiffened its tail, providing additional support and strength. This feature allowed it to deter smaller predators with its imposing size while using remarkable speed to escape larger threats. Capturing both beauty and scientific accuracy, this artwork transports us back in time to witness this ancient marvel's existence firsthand. As we gaze upon this stunning depiction by Science Photo Library, we are reminded of our planet's rich history and the awe-inspiring diversity that once inhabited it – a testament to nature's extraordinary creations.
