Artwork of planet around binary Kepler-35
Artwork of a planet around the binary star Kepler-35, seen from one of its imagined moons. Kepler-35 is a binary system consisting of two early K-type main-sequence stars. Each is very similar in mass and diameter to the Sun, but they are somewhat more orange. They orbit their common centre of mass at an average distance of just 0.18 AU (about half the Sun-Mercury distance), taking 20 days to complete one orbit. Scientists have found a Jupiter-class planet in orbit around the binary - a so-called circumbinary planet - at a distance of 0.6 AU, taking 131 days to complete a full circuit. Called Kepler-35b, it is only 70% the size of Jupiter and has about 13% of its mass. This image shows the planet (with imagined with rings) partially eclipsing one of the two stars, as seen from a hypothetical satellite orbiting the planet

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork showcases the mesmerizing sight of a planet orbiting the binary star system, Kepler-35. The image is viewed from one of its imagined moons, offering a unique perspective on this celestial dance. Kepler-35 consists of two early K-type main-sequence stars that closely resemble our Sun in mass and diameter but possess a distinct orange hue. These twin stars gracefully revolve around their common center of mass at an astonishingly close distance of merely 0.18 AU, completing an orbit in just 20 days. Within this extraordinary system, scientists have made a remarkable discovery - Kepler-35b, a Jupiter-class circumbinary planet situated at approximately 0.6 AU away from its stellar companions. This exoplanet takes 131 days to complete its full circuit and boasts dimensions that are only about 70% the size of Jupiter with roughly 13% of its mass. The awe-inspiring image depicts Kepler-35b partially eclipsing one of the binary stars while adorned with imaginary rings that add to its allure. As if captured by a hypothetical satellite encircling this distant world, we are granted an enchanting glimpse into the wonders beyond our own Earth. With vibrant shades of orange dominating the scene against the backdrop of space's vastness, this artwork serves as a testament to humanity's insatiable curiosity and unyielding desire to explore realms far beyond our reach.
