Artists impression of Yohkoh satellite

Yohkoh solar X-ray astronomy satellite. Artists impression of the US/Japanese Yohkoh ( Sunbeam ) solar X-ray astronomy satellite in its orbital configuration. Yohkoh was launched into Earth orbit on 30 August 1991 by a Japanese M-3 rocket. There are two main instruments on the satellite: the Hard X-ray Telescope (HXT) for X-ray energies of 10-100 keV (thousand electron volts); and the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) for energies of 0.25- 3.00 keV. Both telescopes observe the entire solar disc. Yohkohs main mission is to monitor and record high-energy events such as solar flares and sunspots in order to increase our understanding of the Suns activity

A Wk Astrophysics Japanese Satellite Satellites Solar Solar Astronomy

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the remarkable Yohkoh satellite, a groundbreaking collaboration between the United States and Japan in the field of solar X-ray astronomy. The artist's impression beautifully captures Yohkoh in its orbital configuration, floating gracefully amidst the vastness of space. Launched on August 30,1991, by a Japanese M-3 rocket, this pioneering satellite carries two essential instruments: the Hard X-ray Telescope (HXT) and the Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT). With their respective energy ranges of 10-100 keV and 0.25-3.00 keV, these telescopes enable comprehensive observations of our radiant Sun. Yokhoh's primary mission revolves around monitoring and recording high-energy phenomena like solar flares and sunspots. By diligently studying these events across the entire solar disc, scientists aim to deepen our understanding of the Sun's dynamic activity. The image not only highlights Yohkoh's scientific significance but also serves as a testament to human curiosity and ingenuity in unraveling celestial mysteries. Through astronomical research conducted by this extraordinary satellite, we embark on an awe-inspiring journey into astrophysics that expands our knowledge about our closest star -the Sun. This mesmerizing artwork is brought to you by Science Photo Library – an invaluable resource for astronomical enthusiasts seeking visual insights into various aspects of space exploration.
