Artists impression of Extreme UV Explorer (EUVE)

Artists impression of NASAs Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) astronomical satellite. EUVE will carry four UV telescopes, and will conduct a 12-18 month all-sky survey of extreme UV sources in space. An initial all-sky survey will identify UV sources that might warrant further investigation. Most extreme UV objects detected so far are stars in advanced stages of evolution, such as white dwarfs. EUVE was launched on a Delta II rocket on 7 June 1992, and is scheduled to be visited by the Space Shuttle in February 1994. The visit will allow for payload and instrument replacement where necessary

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the artist's impression of NASA's Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) astronomical satellite. Designed to conduct a comprehensive all-sky survey of extreme UV sources in space, EUVE is equipped with four UV telescopes. Its primary objective is to identify and investigate potential UV sources that warrant further exploration. The image depicts the sleek and futuristic design of EUVE as it orbits gracefully above Earth, capturing breathtaking views of the cosmos. Launched on June 7,1992, aboard a Delta II rocket, this groundbreaking satellite has already made significant discoveries in its quest for understanding the mysteries of our universe. Most notably, EUVE has detected numerous extreme UV objects primarily found among stars in advanced stages of evolution like white dwarfs. These findings have provided invaluable insights into stellar evolution and shed light on the intricate processes occurring within these celestial bodies. Scheduled for a visit by the Space Shuttle in February 1994, EUVE will undergo necessary maintenance and instrument replacement during this mission. This upgrade will ensure its continued functionality and enable scientists to delve even deeper into their research. This awe-inspiring photograph serves as a testament to humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge about our vast cosmic surroundings through cutting-edge technology such as EUVE.
