Artem Mikoyan, Soviet aircraft designer
Artem Ivanovich Mikoyan (1905-1970), Soviet aircraft designer. Mikoyan, of Armenian descent, was a member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. He was also Colonel General of the Soviet Engineering and Technical Service. He is most famous for his work on the MiG aircraft designs. This started in 1939 when he co-founded a design bureau with another Soviet aircraft designer, Mikhail Iosifovich Gurevich. Mikoyan continued to produce MiG fighter aircraft designs throughout the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. His honours include two awards of Hero of Socialist Labour. Photographed in Russia, in 1965
