British Army service vehicles outside H. T. P. Motors Ltd. Back Quay, Truro, Cornwall. Around 1944

Rebuilt service vehicles, spick and span and ready for the road, being handed over to Army drivers towards the end of the Second World War. During the war H.T.P. Motors handed the Army most of their stock of cars and commercial vehicles and purchased transport generally for Government purposes. Large cars were converted to ambulances and essential civilian motor transport was provided and maintained. Ranging from armament production to the repair of Spitfire components, H.T.P.s activities extended and multiplied rapidly with the countrys growing demands. In 2018, this building is the Pannier Market on Back Quay, Truro. Photographer: Unknown

EDITORS COMMENTS
Stepping back in time to the year 1944, this print captures a remarkable sight outside H. T. P. Motors Ltd. on Back Quay in Truro, Cornwall. As the Second World War was nearing its end, British Army service vehicles gleamed proudly in front of the building, freshly rebuilt and ready for action. These immaculate machines were about to be handed over to their dedicated army drivers. During those tumultuous war years, H. T. P. Motors played a crucial role by supplying most of their stock of cars and commercial vehicles to the Army while also procuring transport for various government purposes. The company's versatility knew no bounds as they converted large cars into ambulances and provided essential civilian motor transport that was meticulously maintained. From armament production to repairing Spitfire components, H. T. P. 's activities expanded rapidly alongside the country's growing demands during wartime. Today, it is fascinating to note that this very building has transformed into the bustling Pannier Market on Back Quay in Truro since 2018. While we may not know who precisely captured this extraordinary moment frozen in time, this print serves as a poignant reminder of Cornwall's contribution during WWII and pays homage to H. T. P. , Hosken Trevithick Polkinhorn - an integral part of our nation's history.
