Dobwalls School Visit, Dobwalls, Liskeard, Cornwall. July 1993

200 primary school children walked from Dobwalls School to spend the morning at Dobwalls Family Adventure Park as guests of proprietor John Southern, a Governor of the school. The annual free visit had fine weather and the children were able to ride the trains and explore Adventureland. Founded in 1970 by John Southern, the park was one of Cornwalls top visitor attractions, consisting of two miniature railway networks complemented by large play areas and recreational grounds, both indoors and outdoors, an award-winning art gallery and woodland walks. The park closed at the end of the 2006 season. Photographer: Jonathan Barker

EDITORS COMMENTS
Dobwalls School Visit, Dobwalls, Liskeard, Cornwall. July 1993 In this nostalgic print captured by photographer Jonathan Barker, we are transported back to a sunny day in July 1993 when the young students of Dobwalls Primary School embarked on an exciting adventure. A group of 200 enthusiastic children clad in bright colored clothes set off from their school premises and walked together towards the renowned Dobwalls Family Adventure Park. The annual free visit was made possible through the generosity of John Southern, proprietor of the park and also a Governor at Dobwalls School. As they arrived at their destination, the children's faces lit up with joy as they were greeted by endless possibilities for fun and exploration. Dobwalls Family Adventure Park had been captivating visitors since its establishment in 1970 by John Southern himself. The park boasted two miniature railway networks that wound their way through picturesque landscapes adorned with vibrant flowers and lush greenery. Alongside these charming train rides were expansive play areas both indoors and outdoors where children could unleash their energy while creating lasting memories. As our gaze falls upon this particular moment frozen in time, we witness groups of excited youngsters eagerly boarding one of the narrow gauge trains. Their laughter fills the air as they embark on a thrilling journey through Adventureland. This photograph serves as a testament to not only a delightful outing but also to cherished childhood experiences shared amongst friends against Cornwall's stunning backdrop.
