EDITORS COMMENTS
The Lennox-Boyd brothers, captured in this studio photograph around 1912, epitomize a remarkable family legacy. From left to right, we see George Edward Lennox-Boyd, Alan Tindal Lennox-Boyd, Donald Breay Hague Lennox-Boyd, and Francis Gordon Lennox-Boyd. Born on November 18th, 1904, Alan was the son of Alan Walter Lennox-Boyd and Florence Annie Begbie. Alan's life was marked by extraordinary achievements and public service. Educated at Sherborne School and Christ Church, Oxford, he embarked on a successful political career as a Member of Parliament for Mid-Bedfordshire from 1931 to 1960. Throughout his tenure in government roles such as Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Secretary of State for Colonial Affairs, he demonstrated unwavering dedication to his country. During World War II, Alan served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve while also practicing law as a Barrister at Law. His commitment earned him recognition as Privy Counsellor in 1951 and Companion of Honour in 1960. Beyond politics and public service lay an enduring love story with Lady Patricia Florence Susan Guinness whom he married on December 29th, 1938. Together they purchased Ince Castle in St Stephens by Saltash which became their cherished home until recently. Tragically though heroically intertwined with history's darkest chapters were the fates of his beloved brothers: George lost his life serving as Major in the Highland Light Infantry; Donald met an untimely demise while held captive during events preceding World War II; Francis valiantly led troops but fell during action at Normandy leading the Independent Parachute Company. This poignant portrait serves not only as a testament to brotherhood but also commemorates one man's indelible mark on British politics.
