EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print takes us back to the golden era of travel, capturing the essence of Whitley Bay in its heyday. The London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) commissioned this delightful poster to entice holidaymakers to the picturesque shores of Tyne and Wear. Created by talented artist Frank Newbould, known for his iconic railway posters, it beautifully showcases a couple enjoying a leisurely day at the beach. The scene is idyllic; with soft sand stretching as far as the eye can see and gentle waves lapping at their feet. The couple reclines on deck chairs, basking in the warm sun while casting admiring glances towards an adorable dog holding a spade playfully in its mouth. It's a charming touch that adds whimsy and character to this already enchanting image. Newbould's artistic prowess shines through in every detail - from the vibrant colors that bring life to each element, to his masterful composition that effortlessly draws our gaze from one point of interest to another. This poster not only promotes rail services but also captures an era when seaside holidays were eagerly anticipated events filled with relaxation and joy. As we admire this timeless piece, we are transported back in time - feeling the warmth of sun-kissed skin, hearing laughter carried on salty breezes, and experiencing a sense of tranquility that only comes from being immersed in nature's beauty.
