close support given to the Army by RAF fighter bombers.
The Typhoon fighter bomber now carries two 1, 000 lb bombs on certain operations. A crew of four armourers is required to hoist these bombs into position with the aid of bomb-lifting winches, or " hockey sticks" as they are called by the Canadians seen in the picture.
The Typhoons also carry four 20 mm cannon. Ground crews on a forward airfield
have timed the interval from take-off to return as 15 minutes for many of the sorties.
