EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a significant moment in history - the Fire Services in training at Everton Terrace, Liverpool, Merseyside. The building itself holds a rich past, originally serving as the Liverpool Certified Industrial School until its closure around 1922. In 1925, it was repurposed as Everton Police Station and later listed as a Police Recruiting and Training Department by 1930. The image showcases brave firemen diligently participating in a fire drill during the turbulent times of World War II. With spray hoses in hand, they stand united against the backdrop of Everton's streets. This scene symbolizes their unwavering dedication to protecting their community amidst conflict and uncertainty. It is worth noting that this photograph was taken on or around October 1st, 1940 - an era marked by intense defense preparations on the home front. As part of the war effort, these courageous individuals underwent rigorous training to ensure they were well-equipped to combat fires caused by bombings or other emergencies. Sadly, this historic building met its fate when it was demolished in the early 1970s. However, through this evocative image from Memory Lane Prints, we are reminded of the resilience and sacrifice displayed by those who served on Liverpool's fire services during one of humanity's darkest periods.
