A bomb disposal unit pictured with an unexploded bomb that has been found in Craven Street, Hull.
Please note the L5578710 on the truck and it is possible this unit was The East Riding (Fortress) Royal Engineers, but this is not confirmed.
The Hull Blitz was the bombing campaign that targeted the English port city of Kingston upon Hull by the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War.
Large-scale attacks took place on several nights throughout March 1941, resulting in over 200 deaths. The most concentrated attacks were on the nights of 7/8 and 8/9 May 1941, resulting in just under 400 deaths, and another large-scale attack took place in July 1941 with 143 fatalities.
The city spent more than 1, 000 hours under alert during raids from 19 June 1940 to 1945, with almost 1, 200 people in the city killed as a result of the bombing.

The truck in the picture bears the identification number L5578710, possibly belonging to The East Riding (Fortress) Royal Engineers, although this remains unconfirmed. Known as the Hull Blitz, this bombing campaign by the German Luftwaffe targeted Kingston upon Hull throughout March 1941. Devastating attacks occurred on multiple nights, resulting in over 200 deaths. However, it was during May 7th and 8th that the most concentrated assaults took place with nearly 400 fatalities. Another significant attack followed in July of that year claiming another 143 lives. The city endured more than 1,000 hours under alert from June 19th, 1940 until 1945 due to relentless raids. Tragically, almost 1,200 people lost their lives as a result of these bombings. It is worth noting that since then Craven Street has been renamed Craven Street North and Craven Street South in recent years (2020).
