Street party in Birch road, Higher Crumpsall, Manchester to celebrate VJ Day.
Picture shows a lady on the left in a white coat, possibly called Mrs Penicud (note to editors **** hand written caption hard to read***). She had received news that her son, James, was safe and well and in Japanese hands. She had originally been told he was missing. So, lots of celebrate on this VJ day. Behind one side of
the brick walls are the massive air raid shelters used by
the residents of Birch Road.
VJ Day, Victory over Japan Day is the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end.

Capturing the Joy of Victory - A Street Party in Birch Road, Higher Crumpsall
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this remarkable print from Memory Lane Prints, we are transported back to the vibrant streets of Birch Road in Manchester on a momentous day - VJ Day. The image showcases a jubilant street party filled with an atmosphere of celebration and relief. Amidst the crowd stands a lady, Mrs Penicud, adorned in a white coat. Her face radiates pure happiness as she clutches onto news that her son, James, is safe and well after being initially reported missing and held captive by the Japanese. This revelation adds an extra layer of joy to an already festive occasion. The backdrop reveals massive air raid shelters built along one side of the brick walls – remnants from darker times when residents sought refuge during bombings. Now transformed into symbols of resilience and unity, they stand witness to the strength and spirit of this close-knit community. VJ Day marks Imperial Japan's surrender during World War II, signifying victory for Allied forces and bringing an end to years of conflict. On August 15th, 1945, this photograph was taken as families gathered together under colorful bunting while children played freely in the streets. The scene captures not only their elation but also highlights elements such as flags waving proudly overhead, delicious food being shared among neighbors, and even a gramophone playing joyful tunes that resonate through time. This poignant snapshot serves as a testament to human resilience amidst adversity –
