Eros, Londons most famous statue, returned in all it

Eros, Londons most famous statue, returned in all its former glory to take up a slightly lower newer position in Piccadilly Circus. Removed last year, for much needed repairs - years of late night attention by revellers had loosened vital organs - Eross elegant aluminium body had lost a lot of weight since its erection in 1893.
The memorial to social reformer Lord Shaftesbury weighed 24 stones when workman took it down, now it weighs 30 stones, thanks to filler in the many gaps that have sprung apart in the years of London wear and tear.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic Eros statue, London's most famous symbol, as it is restored to its former glory in Piccadilly Circus. After being removed last year for much-needed repairs, this elegant aluminium figure has returned to take up a slightly lower position in the bustling heart of the city. Erected back in 1893 as a memorial to social reformer Lord Shaftesbury, Eros had undergone significant weight loss due to years of late-night attention from enthusiastic revellers. When workmen took down the statue, it weighed 24 stones; however, with meticulous care and craftsmanship, it now stands at an impressive 30 stones. The gaps that had formed over time due to London's wear and tear have been expertly filled with filler, ensuring that this beloved landmark remains intact for generations to come. The picture was taken on March 25th, 1986 - a snapshot frozen in time from the vibrant decade of the 1980s. It serves as a testament not only to England's rich history but also to the enduring spirit of renewal and restoration. This image transports us back in time and reminds us of the significance that Eros holds within our collective memory. Memory Lane Prints presents this remarkable piece without any commercial intent but rather as an opportunity for viewers to appreciate and reflect upon one of London's most cherished symbols – Eros standing tall amidst Piccadilly Circus' lively atmosphere.
