EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to Milton Keynes in January 1967. The focal point of the image is the majestic parish church, standing tall amidst the picturesque countryside of Buckinghamshire, England. This town, locally known as MK, was designated as a new town just a few days prior to this photograph being taken. Milton Keynes was envisioned to be a city on a grand scale, with its administrative center located here. Its vast area of 89 km2 incorporated existing towns like Bletchley, Wolverton, and Stony Stratford along with several villages and farmland in between. The name "Milton Keynes" was derived from an existing village situated east of the planned center. As we gaze at this snapshot frozen in time, we are transported back to an era when rural landscapes still dominated this region. A quiet lane leads up to the church while a road sign points towards other destinations nearby. It's fascinating how much has changed since then – Milton Keynes has grown into a bustling urban hub located approximately 45 miles northwest of London. This print by Mirrorpix captures not only the essence of Milton Keynes in the 1960s but also serves as a reminder of how cities evolve over time. It allows us to appreciate both the history and progress that have shaped this vibrant town into what it is today.
