Six-year old Glenn Jones may have a classmate soon! For the past two days Glenn has had a brand new school to himself. He is the first pupil at the Brow County Primary School, built to serve a new estate in Runcorn New Town. When the school was programmed about three years ago it was expected that the families would have moved into the estate but as yet not all the houses have been handed over to the corporation. 6th September 1968

One Boy Only Primary Pupil 1968

EDITORS COMMENTS
Six-year old Glenn Jones eagerly awaits the arrival of a new classmate as he enjoys his exclusive reign over Brow County Primary School. This charming snapshot captures the unique circumstances faced by young Glenn, who finds himself as the sole pupil in this newly constructed school. Built to cater to the growing community of Runcorn New Town, it was expected that families would have settled into their homes by now. However, delays in handing over houses to the corporation have left Glenn with an entire school all to himself for two consecutive days. In this nostalgic image from September 6th, 1968, we witness a moment frozen in time - a testament to both progress and anticipation. The innocence and curiosity radiating from Glenn's face speaks volumes about his eagerness for companionship and shared learning experiences. This photograph by Jack Spencer encapsulates not only a slice of 1960s history but also highlights the importance of education and social interaction for young minds. As we reflect on this scene, one can't help but wonder when that long-awaited classmate will finally arrive at Brow County Primary School. Join us on Memory Lane Prints as we celebrate cherished moments like these - snapshots that capture both individual stories and broader societal changes.
