The Teessaurus - A Majestic Triceratops in the Heart of Teessaurus Park

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print captures the awe-inspiring presence of "The Teessaurus" a magnificent triceratops sculpture created by Genevieve Glatt and skillfully fabricated by Harts of Stockton. Installed in 1979, this six-ton monster stands tall as a testament to the remarkable transformation of an old slag heap into the vibrant ten-acre riverside development park we now know as Teessaurus Park. Originating from a national Art into Landscape competition organized by The Sunday Times and the Arts Council, this ambitious project aimed to create a green haven where people could gather to enjoy scenic views of river traffic. The Middlesbrough Council commissioned this extraordinary piece, which required an investment of £16,000. As depicted in this snapshot taken shortly after its installation, The Teessaurus commands attention with its imposing stature and intricate details. Its robust frame dominates the landscape while evoking a sense of wonder and nostalgia for prehistoric times. This iconic sculpture has become an emblematic symbol not only for art enthusiasts but also for locals and visitors alike who flock to admire its grandeur. With the River Tees serving as a picturesque backdrop, The Teessaurus epitomizes how art can seamlessly blend with nature's beauty. It stands as a reminder that even remnants from industrial pasts can be transformed into something enchanting—a true testament to human creativity and ingenuity.
