EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print from Memory Lane Prints, we witness a thrilling polo match between Prince Charles and Princess Diana's friend, Major James Hewitt. Dressed in a vibrant red shirt and donning the number 3, Prince Charles is locked in a fierce battle with Major Hewitt, who can be seen wearing a white shirt with the number 2. The intensity of their competition is palpable as they maneuver their horses skillfully across the polo field at Windsor. As Major Hewitt challenges the prince during one particular moment captured in this image, the commentator exclaims, "Oh, I say! That riding off was a bit rough". It is evident that both players are giving it their all to secure victory for their respective teams. However, despite Prince Charles' determined riding throughout the game, it was ultimately Gulf Heroes who emerged triumphant with a score of 4-1. Adding an extra touch of royalty to this eventful day on the polo field is Princess Beatrice herself – just two years old at that time – who presented the coveted prizes to the victorious players. Daughter of The Duchess of York and Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice brings an adorable charm to this already captivating scene. This snapshot taken on July 16th, 1991 encapsulates not only an exciting sporting event but also highlights moments shared by prominent figures within England's royal family during that era.
