These Salendine Nook High School pupils have made a clean sweep. Pupils have armed themselves with shovels and brushes to tackle litter and rubbish in the subway beneath the busy New Hey Road near their school. It was one of the first projects fo the schoolsCommunity Help Panel. Other projects the panel aims to tackle including cutting down smoking by pupils, improving lock rooms and opening a stationery store. Mrs Lyn Brooks, head of the foruth year, said it was hoped the panel would help both the school and the community. Huddersfield crime Prevention officer Pc Phil Devereux, who is backing the panel, said similar schemes were in operation at three other Huddersfield high schools ? Rawthorpe, Almondbury and All SaintsBradley. It was hoped all would mount big projects during National Crime Prevention Week in April, when the police plan to hold a panel quiz. 6th February 1991

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we see a group of determined Salendine Nook High School pupils taking matters into their own hands. Armed with shovels and brushes, they have embarked on a mission to tackle the litter and rubbish that has accumulated in the subway beneath New Hey Road near their school. This initiative is one of the first projects undertaken by the school's Community Help Panel. Led by Mrs Lyn Brooks, head of the fourth year, this panel aims to make a positive impact not only within the school but also in the wider community. Their future endeavors include reducing smoking among students, improving locker rooms, and even opening a stationery store. This inspiring project has gained support from Huddersfield Crime Prevention officer Pc Phil Devereux who commends similar schemes at other high schools in Huddersfield such as Rawthorpe, Almondbury, and All Saints Bradley. In fact, all these schools are planning significant projects during National Crime Prevention Week in April. The dedication shown by these young individuals serves as an example for us all. By actively participating in initiatives like this one, they are demonstrating their commitment to keeping Britain tidy and making a difference where it truly matters - within their own community.
