EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming photo print, we see little William Day, affectionately known as the "Water baby" receiving his well-deserved trophy from the Mayoress and Deputy Mayoress. The joy on William's face is evident as he stands proudly with his shiny cup in hand. At just three-and-a-half years old, William has already made quite a splash in the water babies swimming session at Elland baths. His dedication to these classes since he was six months old has paid off, earning him recognition and admiration from all those around him. William comes from a family of water babies, with his 18-month-old brother Edward following in his footsteps. It seems that their love for the water runs deep within their veins. The prestigious Raymond Pearson water baby cup serves as a symbol of achievement for young swimmers like William. This special moment was made even more memorable by the presence of Mrs Mary Lawler, the esteemed Mayoress of Calderdale, and Deputy Mayoress Mrs Shirley Toner who presented him with this coveted award. Under the guidance of Mrs Mavis Smith, an experienced instructor, these water babies have formed a tight-knit community of 40 members. Their shared passion for swimming creates lasting memories and bonds that will surely endure beyond their early years. This heartwarming snapshot captures not only William's triumph but also highlights the importance of nurturing children's talents and celebrating their accomplishments at such tender ages.
