Big-hearted charity runners took time out of their Christmas celebrations for a good
Big-hearted charity runners took time out of their Christmas celebrations for a good cause on Boxing Day morning. Over 200 people turned out to a fun run at the Red Lion, Stainland, to raise money for the Martin House Hospice for Children at Boston Spa. Organiser Mr Roy Spencer, of Holywell Green, hopes to raise more than £ 1, 000 from the run. Almost £ 300 was raised from a raffle and auction held after it. The oldest competitor in the race was 60-year-old Mrs Olive Chadwick, of Southowram. First home was Halifax Harrier Andrew Wimpenny, of Greenland. 26th December 1988

EDITORS COMMENTS
Big-hearted charity runners spread holiday cheer as they lace up their sneakers for a good cause on Boxing Day morning. In a heartwarming display of community spirit, over 200 individuals gathered at the Red Lion in Stainland to participate in a fun run, all in support of the Martin House Hospice for Children at Boston Spa. The event was organized by Mr Roy Spencer, a resident of Holywell Green, who aimed to raise more than £1,000 through this charitable endeavor. The festive atmosphere was palpable as participants donned Santa hats and Christmas-themed attire while eagerly awaiting the starting signal. Even though it was just one day after Christmas, these compassionate souls chose to prioritize giving back during this season of goodwill. Amongst the sea of runners stood Mrs Olive Chadwick, an inspiring 60-year-old competitor from Southowram who exemplified that age is no barrier when it comes to supporting those in need. Halifax Harrier Andrew Wimpenny emerged victorious as he crossed the finish line first amidst cheers and applause from spectators. However, every participant felt like a winner knowing that their efforts would contribute towards providing essential care and support for children at the hospice. After completing the race with smiles on their faces and warmth in their hearts, everyone came together for an uplifting raffle and auction which raised nearly £300 additional funds. This snapshot captured on December 26th, 1988 serves as a timeless reminder of how selflessness can unite communities during special seasons like Christmas.
